Coronavirus: Border controls on the Czech border lifted as of 14 April
press release 13 April 2021
“No border controls in the heart of Europe”
Federal Minister of the Interior, Building and Community Horst Seehofer has decided to end the temporary reintroduction of border checks on the border to the Czech Republic as of 14 April.
Minister Horst Seehofer said: “In light of the decreasing infection rate in the Czech Republic we can now discontinue border controls and focus instead on intensified random checks in the border area to enforce the Ordinance on Coronavirus Entry Regulations (Coronavirus-Einreiseverordnung). I have always said that border controls in the heart of Europe must only be a last resort.”
As on other borders, random checks will from now on also be intensified in the German-Czech border area.
