Scrupulous social distancing saves lives
press release 31 March 2020
Federal and state interior ministers call for the measures to continue, in order to protect public health and save lives
In a telephone conference about the coronavirus on 30 March 2020, the federal and state interior ministers agreed:
The measures put in place by the federal and state governments to slow the spread of the coronavirus must remain in place and be scrupulously enforced.
"We are still at the very start of the pandemic. It would be the wrong decision to relax the measures we have taken to break the chains of infection. I would therefore appeal to all citizens not to slacken their efforts. We must continue to enforce social distancing. This is essential in saving lives,"
said Federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer.
The chair of the Standing Conference of Interior Ministers, Thuringia’s Minister of the Interior Georg Maier, added, "We need to wait to see the effects of social distancing. We do not yet have reliable figures on whether and in what way the steps we have taken are having an effect. Lifting the restrictions is therefore out of the question at present. The police will continue to take strict action against violations of these restrictions."
