Border open only at designated crossing points

Rules concerning the land borders with Austria, France, Luxembourg, Denmark and Switzerland specified in further detail
From 20 March 2020, it will be possible to cross the land borders with Austria, France, Luxembourg, Denmark and Switzerland only at designated border crossing points. The list of designated border crossing points is published on the website of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community at www.bmi.bund.de.
To avoid inconvenience, the federal ministry asks all those who have urgent reason to travel to inform themselves whether it is possible for them to cross the border. For more information, please see www.bmi.bund.de.
Under exceptional circumstances, for example in case of major traffic backups, the Federal Police may open other border crossing points.
