New leadership at the Federal Ministry of the Interior

Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt takes office along with his Parliamentary State Secretaries Daniela Ludwig and Christoph de Vries.
Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt began his official duties at the Federal Ministry of the Interior on 7 May 2025. Parliamentary State Secretaries Daniela Ludwig and Christoph de Vries will support him in his broad range of policy tasks. After being photographed shaking hands with his predecessor, the new Minister of the Interior introduced himself to ministry staff at a staff meeting.
As his first official act, Federal Minister of the Interior Dobrindt instructed the Federal Police to tighten border checks at the internal borders.
Organisational changes
Some of the Federal Ministry of the Interior’s previous areas of responsibility are being moved to other ministries. Parts of the Directorate for Community, which have areas of focus including equivalent living conditions throughout Germany, are moving to the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Tasks related to digital administration are moving to the ministry responsible for digital affairs, and the areas of sport and voluntary service are moving to the Federal Chancellery.
