Rights of multiple nationals

type: Article

Do multiple nationals have more rights?

No, they do not! In Germany, German multiple nationals have exactly the same rights as any other German national.

German multiple nationals cannot declare additional rights in Germany by claiming that they have another nationality, nor can they evade their obligations, such as the duty to do military service.

German multiple nationals may have additional rights in relation to the other state whose nationality they also have. Whether or not they can exercise these rights (such as the right to vote) depends on the laws of the other state; this, however, does not have any influence on policy, society as a whole, or on the individual in Germany.
