Within the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community and the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection are responsible for dealing with all questions related to the Basic Law, our Constitution. The Federal Ministry of the Interior must be consulted on all issues of constitutional law during the lawmaking process and in proceedings before the Federal Constitutional Court. In this way, it is responsible for making sure that the Federal Government and federal administration obey the Basic Law.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community deals with a broad range of issues concerning the state and the Constitution, from classic matters of lawmaking such as law on elections and political parties, to symbols of the state, special areas such as law on assembly and associations, and to matters of European law.
