Construction projects abroad
Article Building & Housing
The Federation is involved in construction abroad as well as in Germany.
Projects include "own" construction projects such as embassy buildings, but also projects for institutions which are mainly funded by the Federation (construction projects eligible for grants).
The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community is responsible for new construction projects for embassies, consulates, the Goethe-Institut, cultural and science institutions and German schools abroad, as well as for the regular construction maintenance of civilian Federal Government property on all five continents.
As Federal Government buildings abroad are very important for Germany’s international image, they have to meet particularly high quality requirements.
With the exception of the buildings in the remit of the Federal Ministry of Defence, Federal Government construction projects abroad are carried out by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) in line with the relevant legal provisions (Federal Construction Guidelines (RBBau).
