Heating, hot water and lighting in publicly and privately owned buildings in Germany account for 35% of final energy consumption and nearly 30% of all CO2 emissions nationwide; at the same time, some 85% of all energy used in private households is for heating and hot water. The Federal Government therefore finances energy-efficient new construction alongside renovation to improve the energy efficiency of building stock.
