There is a long tradition of energy-efficient construction in Germany. Research has been under way for more than 30 years into the building of the future, which will be climate-neutral to live in.
The Efficiency House Plus represents valuable innovation in this direction in the buildings sector. An Efficiency House Plus can be achieved in a range of ways, using an intelligent combination of energy-efficient construction technologies and systems for generating renewable energy. With no impact on aesthetics or quality of life, buildings become miniature power plants that generate more energy in the course of the year than they consume during their operation and use. The excess energy can then be used for electromobility or to provide power within the neighbourhood.
The Efficiency House Plus network encompasses 44 buildings (housing and educational facilities) which are being monitored for academic analysis. The model buildings are selected on a technology-neutral basis, to allow investigation of the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of a range of approaches.
Visit the federally owned Efficiency House Plus in Berlin
Since late 2017, the federally owned Efficiency House Plus in Berlin has served as an information and competence centre for sustainable building. The house invites people to experience, find out about and get involved in building for the future.
On behalf of the federal ministry responsible for building, the team from Vagedes and Schmid GmbH organises a broad programme of activities at the information and competence centre, including tours, conferences, exhibitions, events and webinars on the topic of sustainable building, as well as providing information about federal building research initiatives.
