Within the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community is also responsible for the public administration, from the federal public service and legislation on administrative procedures to open administration and open government. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is also supposed to drive an ongoing process of modernization in the public administration.
Social, technological and demographic change, the difficult budget situation and growing European and international integration represent major challenges for the public administration, which should continue to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of service and quality. Public administration is a factor in attracting international investment. The more modern our public administration, the more effectively it can respond to and even actively shape changes in society.
Highly skilled and competent staff are essential to manage the future challenges. To continue to attract new staff to work in federal administration and ensure that federal agencies remain productive, public service law must keep up with the times. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is responsible for keeping public service law up to date in dialogue with professional associations and in collective wage bargaining with the labour unions.
