Churches and religious communities
The Federal Government strives for good cooperation and partnership with churches and religious communities as well as other social groups and associations in Germany. Citizens' social commitment in welfare organizations, churches, self-help groups, voluntary services and honorary posts is indispensable in a democratic society.
Within the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of the Interior is responsible for basic issues of constitutional law on religious organizations and relations with churches and religious and ideological communities (except for new religious and ideological movements and sects, for which the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth is responsible).
