Christian churches
The Federal Government recognizes the important social policy role played by the Catholic and Protestant churches in Germany. The Federal Government therefore gives priority to consulting church representatives on numerous policy issues involving ethical and social questions, such as gene technology and policy on asylum and foreigners.
Within the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of the Interior is responsible for basic issues of constitutional law applicable to religious organizations and relations with churches and religious and ideological communities (except for new religious and ideological movements and sects, for which the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth is responsible).
