Tasks of the Federal Ministry of the Interior
The Federal Ministry of the Interior performs manifold tasks involving a high degree of responsibility. The minister’s most important function is ensuring our country’s internal security. Protection from violence, be it criminal or terrorist, is a prerequisite for individuals to achieve their full potential.
Another important task – and a high priority – is to improve the integration of the many people who came to Germany full of hope and decided to settle in our country. Migration can enrich our country. But if it is to work, people coming here must be willing to integrate. This includes learning the German language – a requirement that everyone living in our country must fulfil.
The Federal Ministry of the Interior is responsible for many other policy areas as well, from modernizing public administration and protecting data privacy to promoting sport. For more information on the Ministry’s many policy tasks, click on “Topics”.
